People Aren't Excited and I Don't Get It

I love school. I'll probably be taking night classes my entire life. Just because I want to. I've been looking at what my schooling schedule will be like the next few years and I have a lot of credits that I want to fulfill, but also, I just want to take all these classes. It makes me wonder why people don't enjoy school.

So, that's what I've been thinking about the past couple weeks. Why don't people don't enjoy learning? Why people don't get excited about things? And why don't people want to know everything?

I don't really know, but I have guesses. Everyone in the entire world gets excited about something. The only problem is, getting excited about anything except for sports and the latest scandal in pop culture is usually looked down upon. And the people that do get excited about things are called nerds, which is for some reason, often considered a bad thing.

I believe the world would be a better place if people got excited about things. I've never been one to care about what other people are thinking. I find everything interesting and get excited about so many things. But I get weird looks, get called a freak a lot or people just nod their heads and smile when I get excited. Truthfully, I don't even realize I'm way over excited about something people don't think anyone should care about. I don't understand why things aren't interesting to people.

What I find sad, is that people don't realize the importance of enjoying things and getting excited about things until they're old. Too old to get a second chance usually. Whenever I talk to older people, 50+, they think that it's great when I get excited about things. They're very encouraging to anyone who is excited and wants to do anything.

There's so many things out there to learn in life. For me, I'm bothered by the fact that I probably won't live long enough to learn everything. (I'm going to try my damned hardest though.) It bewilders me that people can just sit back and let the world happen around them.

Grammar Nazi Rant

UPDATE 5/29: Please pray for this girl and I am not saying anything against this girl and I am worried about her and I want her to get better! I'm just upset at the declining grammar in this world. Not just this one person who wrote this. Thanks. :)

I'm currently working on a different post that's a lot more in depth and stuff, but I just read something and it made me angry.

So, the background story is apparently a girl got hit on the highway while walking her dog. (Why she was walking her dog on the highway, I'm not sure...) And she got hit by a truck that a teenage boy was driving. I got invited to a Facebook "event" asking me to pray for this girl.
This is the summary of the event on the page:

Please please pray for Stevie Urwin Sandy high school grad in our home town, This poor 19 yr old girl got hit walking the high way here in sandy by 211 by a half ton truck a 15 yr old boy was driving. She was walking her dog she was taken to the hospital. plz "like" this and lets hope for the best for her and her family. plz let me know if u have any ideas on how to help with her and her family thru this tuff situation we are sandy...some went to school with her and some know her via family or friends but lets plz do something about this... she didnt deserve this. Plz contact me with ideas.

Excuse me, but WHAT THE F**K!?!
I have so many problems with this it's not even funny.
What does this even mean?! I mean, I got that this girl was hit by a truck that a 15 year old boy was driving apparently... but WHAT?!
Dear person who wrote this,
YOU ARE ASKING PEOPLE TO PRAY FOR A GIRL WHO GOT HIT BY A TRUCK AND YOU CAN'T EVEN SPELL "PLEASE" OUT CORRECTLY! This is a dishonor to her and her family. "Tuff" is not how you spell t-o-u-g-h. "Plz" is not a word. It's spelled "please". If you want people to care about what happened to Stevie the least you can do is take an extra 5 seconds to spell out your words, an extra minute or two to write complete sentences, and use your brain to make sure it makes sense!
I don't know this girl, and I am very sorry for her and I hope that she is okay.
But you are disgracing her by this.
Sincerely,
Heidi

Why Don't We Care?

Note: I wrote this rant a few months ago. I am just now getting 'round to finishing it. Sorry it's been a while since I've posted.

Today, I am going to talk to you about a serious topic.
I know I generally don't do that, but it's something that's been on my mind lately. This is a bit of a rant that I've been dying to write and I finally have time to write about it.
America. It's totally messed up. We all know it except for those who aren't involved with it's problems or those too ignorant to care.

Mostly, my problem with America is the education system. The main reason this is currently on my mind right now is that I am reading this book that is considered really nerdy.

Oh, and reason #2 is one of John Green's most recent vlogbrother videos. Found here.

So, why does reading a nerdy book make me angry about the American education system? Well, the book is The Calculus Diaries by Jennifer Ouellette. And my first problem is, is that when I consider taking it with me to read anywhere I have a little voice in the back of my head saying, "People are going to think you are such a nerd if they see you reading that." Generally, I don't let people see the book.

The fact is, I don't care to a point if people think I'm a nerd, because it really isn't an insult. However, occasionally, I find myself thinking "Okay, this really is very nerdy. Do you really want to deal with people's comments on this?" Therefore I hide whatever nerdy thing it is.

So, the reason this book made me start thinking about this is a couple quotes that Ouellette wrote in her book. The first one is:
"Knowledge is power, and we forfeit that power when we choose to remain willfully ignorant."
It's pretty self explanatory. And makes me wonder why knowledgeable people are looked down upon when they obviously have the higher ground and power.
The second is a little more relevant to the book and goes a little something like this:
"[S]cientists have a valid point when they bemoan the fact that it's socially acceptable in our culture to be utterly ignorant of math, whereas it is a shameful thing to be illiterate."
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT THAT ALMOST NO ONE REALIZES!!!!!

The world can exist without reading and words. As much as I and a few other people would like to think it can't exist without books and words and writing and literature. It can. There are entire cultures that were created and built upon that had no writing system whatsoever. BUT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO EXIST WITHOUT MATH!
/endrant

All right, so that's where I stopped in the rant. I'm not particularly angry about this topic at the moment, so I won't continue it. However, I think I made my point. I didn't support it extremely well. But it's a rant, so... no support technically needed.

Today. Is My Birthday.

And I'm going to do what I want.

Yeah. That's right.

So, my day is going to go like this (as decided by someone else):
Get up at 6am so I can go to school like a good kid. Even though class doesn't start until 11. It's the only way I'll get there.
Leave school at 5. Two hours after my class gets out, because once again - it's the only way I'll be getting home.
That's 10 hours. At school. On my birthday. That's twice the hours of when I'm actually supposed to be in class!

So, I'm all "I am not going to allow myself to play Civilization until I get to 4k on my outline."

Now I have decided that that is total BS.

It's my motherf**king birthday and I am gong to play Civilization.
That's right.
Imma rebel. (<--See that? You know what that is? BAD GRAMMAR! YEAH!)

Note: This mood may or may not have to do with the extra shot of coffee I had this morning. I'm not sure.

IHAVESOMUCHTODO!!!

askhansdiogalksf;sdgh

That. Up there. It's my brain right now. Freaking out. Because of all the things I have to do.
I don't know how I let this happen. Maybe it's not my fault that I always end up having to do everything at short periods of time. Chances are though, it is.

Maybe what happens is I get all motivated subconsciously and figure out all these things I have to do, then consciously I freak out because of all these things.

Who knows. The real issue is I have a whole lot of things to do in a very short time span.

Right now, here are the things I have to do within the next week:
  1. Upload 3 pinstriping things
  2. Make avatars for people
  3. Get a 6 page paper rewritten for tomorrow
  4. Clean my room because it's too messy for me to think
  5. Do laundry
  6. Do math homework
  7. Get a whole lot outlined on my story for JulNo (at least another 2k within 2 or 3 days)
  8. Have a birthday
  9. Start packing for the cruise
  10. Have a goodbye party for the exchange student
  11. Write thank you notes for the birthday
  12. Not ignore boyfriend because I'm busy doing other things (which definitely won't happen because I tend to ignore everything for spending time with him :P)
  13. Go through bookshelf
  14. Put lots of stuff on Amazon.com
  15. Ship stuff that's been ordered on Amazon.com
  16. Sleep.
  17. Eat.
  18. Not die.
That's a lot of things to do! quertyasdghaskdf;ja

Oh, and not die in all my other classes. And that's not including job research and studying and talking to other people and working. At my job. Where I get paid to do stuff. That I'll get fired from if I don't do. Yeah.

YAY! STUFF TO DO!

Note: I am actually not avoiding doing other things right now. I'm in math class. So I do not have the ability to do the things I need to do on my list. So it's okay.

Keep It Simple

I recently, as of last night, had a lovely little break down and was freaking out about my life in general. And then I had a wonderful discussion with a very special someone (after a nice little conversation with a stuffed blue dinosaur) who made my life a whole lot easier and we came up with this little phrase to keep me going for this week at least.
Keep it simple.
Don't stress about everything. Don't question how what you're doing will affect your life later on. Don't look for a deeper meaning in everything.
Keep it simple.

In case you haven't noticed; I get stressed fairly easily, but I ignore it until the stress is so great that I can't function.
Also, I absolutely fail at communication. And I just didn't learn some of the things I should have as a child.
I have big dreams and sometimes they seem so far out of reach. (I feel like those are song lyrics from some where.)
That's okay, though - because I'm going to fix it. I'm going to become all amazing and such. It's going to happen. With some help that I have dubbed my "training wheels."
So, here it goes.
A toast...
keep it simple.

Wish me luck.

A Community Reunited: Thank You TimeTurner and Jay

All right. So, the HPFF craziness has finally been brought to a close.

What happened?

It seems that taking HPFF and making it the new SHFF site was an April Fools joke.

However, selling the site was not. Jay made an explanation and an apology on the HPFF forums. I would like to thank him for owning up to what he did and being mature enough to do that.

I would like to thank the wonderful timeturner (You HPFF fans all know who she is.) for saving HPFF and talking a bit of sense into Jay. Who does do a lot for the site - I don't think anyone in their right minds can deny that. However, the quick and rash decision to sell the site was uncalled for at the least.

Jay, even though I was quite angered at you and your decision making, I am extremely grateful that you created HPFF and have kept it running for 10 years. And thank you for deciding not to sell the site. I hope that if you do decide to sell the site eventually that you will find someone extremely dedicated to keep the site running for even more years.

TimeTurner, there are no words great enough that I can thank you with. You saved an entire community and family. We would be nothing without people like you.

That is all.

A Community has Been Violated

All right. I stayed up until midnight so I could post this because I feel bad posting more than once a day.
Fact is. I need to rant. And the site I would like to complain to has rules and I can't. I made my mature plea with them politely as possible - obviously they don't really care.

Here's the truth:
harrypotterfanfiction.com is DEAD. Not just dead, it has been mutilated and tortured and then finally put out of its misery.

What's wrong with that do you say? It's only a website. It can't actually be tortured and mutilated. Except for it can.
Not only has harrypotterfanfiction.com been destroyed. Before its death, it was changed to a Sherlock Holmes Fan Fiction website. Then put up for sale later that day.
Before it was completely taken down. All mentions of the name "Harry" were changed to little Sherlock Holmes emoticons. I feel like my writing has been violated and it's not worth it.

Now, I can take a joke like making HPFF into a SHFF site for a day. However, I am now under the impression that this is not a joke. After reading Jay's (Jay is the site owner and creator) wonderful twitter page (with quite immature and colorful language I might add) I'm almost certain this isn't a joke.

The site is for sale and the person known as timeturner is desperately trying to save it. Only, Jay's making that a bit difficult.

In my opinion, he is being totally immature about this. He is destroying a community that's been around for 10 years. On top of it, he's letting everyone just explode in the forums. The moderators are working their asses off to control the masses of angry people. I feel sorry for them and this turmoil he has created.

On top of it all, I'm honestly offended and disappointed. If it's a joke, it was funny for a little. However, now, it's just pathetic and stupid. And I feel like after running this site for 10 years, Jay would be a bit more mature than this.

Jay, if you ever read this. I thought you were better than this and I can't believe that you are so immature. I understand if you no longer want to have the site or don't want to run it. I won't say "think of all the people you're hurting" because I don't believe that's how you should live your life. But to go and just get rid of it with no warning. You're pathetic and you're a coward. You could have done more and you know it.

And another note to all of you saying that "It's about time for a change" and "Harry's done with" and "He's a whimp, Sherlock is better" would you please explain to me what you're doing on a HPFF site in the first place?

Heidi's 5 Steps to Eradicate Stress from Your Life

(If you haven't read part 1: Stress and Other Unfortunate Realities of this, I highly suggest it)

So, keeping all of this in mind, what is to be done with all of this stress?

Well, I've decided to make:

5 Steps to Eradicate Stress from Your Life
Step 1: Decide you are willing to fix what's wrong. Even if it's hard to do. This can be one of the hardest steps for some people. Who would either rather go the easy route, that in the long term, can quite literally kill you or are just in denial of there being a problem at all.
Step 2: Identify the stress. You won't be able to fix what's wrong, if you don't know what's wrong.
Step 3: Identify your "support system": the people who will not only support you and tell you you're doing a good job, but also keep you going and give you tough love.
Step 4: Create goals to manage time, relax, etc. and share them with one or two other people you feel comfortable sharing them with.
Step 5: Continue with these goals for at least the next month ( the minimum time needed to make the things you are doing a habit). Make sure you have people that are helping you complete these goals. Revise your system only if it isn't working.

Congratulations! Hopefully, your stress, if it isn't gone, is at least lowered.

Note: This is not a studied or scientifically created system. This just worked very well for me and other people I know.

Stess and Other Unfortunate Realities

There comes a time in every high school-er's career when they realize that stress and other unfortunate realities are inevitable.

You'd be surprised at all of the things that could be stressing out a high school-er. So, if you're a parent of a high school-er, listen up. There might be other reasons your kid "hates you" or hides in their room all day and night or goes out with friends every single weekend. Whatever they're doing, it's probably to deal with the amount of stress they have. (All though, it may be due to the denial of life also, but I don't really have much experience with this.)

Here's a short list of things that there are to stress out your every day high school student (that cares about life):
  • Friends
  • Enemies
  • (potential) Boyfriend/Girlfriend
  • Peer Pressure: Drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. (Don't assume your child is doing these things, but it can be a huge stress factor)
  • Social Acceptance
  • Grades
  • Scholarships
  • Colleges
  • Teacher Relationships
  • Part-time Job
  • Money for now
  • Money for college and future life
  • Choosing a career
  • Parent Relationships
  • Sibling Relationships
  • getting enough sleep
  • And a multitude of other things
Now, there are so many things just right there. I could probably come up with more if I thought about it. So, what do you do about your super stressed out kid/friend/self?

Make sure the relationships are strong and stable. All though, colleges and scholarships and grades may all seem super important, and they are, the most important thing is the relationships. No one that has crumbling relationships will be able to keep going forever in everything else. Having a strong support system is one of the most important things. Without this, it's hard for anyone to feel the need to do anything.

For a high school student, the overbearing idea that "you need to be socially accepted by people is the most important thing" is the most destructive idea that can be implanted in a student's mind. This idea enables someone to believe that someone else's idea about what they should do in life is more important than theirs. It encourages conformity in not only fashion, but life choices. Conformity is not necessarily a bad thing. Like people conforming and not murdering people. That's good. Conforming everyone's ideas is bad.

PART 2 coming later... because I need to sleep and I don't have time to finish this now :)

Random School Day #3/ Rant #1: Procrastination

I'm at school. Again. And I'm done with my stuff before everyone else. Again.

Well, I figured since I'm sitting here waiting for class to end because I have nothing to do because all my homework is done, I'd start a series of rants. Today's rant will be on procrastination. Because over the past years of my life, I have procrastinated, but lately I've found the benefits of not procrastinating.

I've never actually understood procrastination. Even when I procrastinated. I never understood it. Why do people procrastinate in the first place? It just all piles up and you have to do it later. Why make things harder on yourself when they're easy if you don't procrastinate?

I think, in my mind, I equate it to getting drunk to drink away problems. Ignoring your problems will never make them go away. If anything, it makes them worse. So why do that to yourself?

Honestly, procrastinating is just a short-term enjoyment that results in long-term stress. What do you do when you procrastinate? Watch TV? You could watch it later, or do math homework while you watch it. Hang out with friends? Well, they probably have homework or things to do as well. If they choose to procrastinate, that's their choice. That shouldn't influence how you do things. If they don't want you to succeed. Why are you friends with them?

Procrastination is bad. Don't do it. It's like a drug. Addictive and it will ruin your life. Get out now while you can.

Note: I'm actually posting this really late at night because class ended right before I posted it.

Until next time!
